Methodical Teaching

Jim Stinnett does a great job on this topic. If you're considering getting serious about your improvisation skills on bass, this book is perfect. I enjoyed every page and this book (along with practice) has elevated my improvisation skills considerably. The book is a little thin, but this is truly all you need (as far as text goes). I bought this along with a Jazz Standards book with CD. The 2 books combined easily replaced any need for face-to-face lessons (I'm a book learner anyway). Wouldn't part with this book as it will be a great reference tool going forward.

Easy and effective way to learn how to play walking bass

This book is a superb and surprisingly quick way to learn how to play walking jazz bass lines. I have played bass-range instruments for 30 years, and technically, I knew how to play walking bass. But for some reason I always sounded less like Ron Carter and more like Chris Squire trying to play jazz. None of the people I played gigs with complained, but they didn't really rave, either. I knew there were things I didn't know, so I tried this book. In a matter of a few days, my walking bass lines got 1,000% better.

I love that this book is not dumbed-down -- he teaches you not just how to get the chord tones right, but how to introduce chromatics, substitutions, etc., that can make you sound a lot more interesting -- and edgy, too, if that's what you're looking for. And he makes it all easy to understand.

That said, this book is not for beginners. You have to know how to read bass clef (although you do not need to be a good sight-reader), and you will have to be able to spell chords at the very least.

Highly recommended. I have already bought two more of his books and am digging them, too.

Not Just For Dummies!

I've been taking photographs for 45 years, but have always thought I could learn more about the craft, so I've amassed quite a library on the subject of photography. Julie Adair King's 'Canon EOS 70D for Dummies' is the latest addition as a guide to getting the most out of my newest DSLR. A good portion of the books addresses basic photography concepts (something I like to review on almost a weekly basis), but the author does a fine job of relating each of these concepts to the 70D. Like all of the other Dummies, and Idiots publications this book has hints, tips, and cautions in the margins which sometimes take the reader of the immediate track. Also, like many books the narrative about a particular photo illustration (mostly about menu options) is not always found on the same page as the illustration. However, that's a very minor complaint. King obviously knows her DSLRs, and does a very good job of walking the 70D owner through the camera's capabilities, and provides enough experienced based information to make the book useful not only to the novice, but to the enthusiast as well.

Breathtaking, Inspiring, and Unforgettable!

Valentine Hound Dog is an extraordinarily beautiful and tremendously poignant story that serves as a gentle reminder that no one should settle for less than who they are and what they want. Many things in this life may serve to impress on us that we aren’t what we should be and because of that we have no right to pursue our heart’s desire. This is such a huge lie that we really need to stop listening to. Instead, we need to begin to listen more to our heart and let it guide us to where we need to be and allow it to change our way of thinking and living. What is the purpose of living a half empty and dreadfully unfulfilled life?

Jenna has lived the stereotype of being the beautiful daughter that got away with murder because of her outward grace and attractiveness. She used that asset to her advantage throughout her career in the design world. As the glam and glitz slowly begin to lose its overall appeal, she watches as the bitter fa�ade of her world begins to fall away to reveal the ugliness and the emptiness that has left her cold and lonely. Greenly and Roman both took my breath away but for very different reasons. Greenly was so overwhelmed by Roman that she didn’t know how to deal with it. While not used to having good experiences with men, she doesn’t have any good experiences to draw on to help her out. She is left with acting like herself around him which makes her feel truly unworthy the more she gets to know the type of man he is. While the story is told from Greenly’s point of view, we still see how Roman reacts to her and series of accidents. He shows his interest and how far he is willing to go to prove to her that his interest hasn’t wavered no matter what she does or thinks. He seems to be a genuine guy who loves his son and only want to take care of him and shield their hearts. It would seem that the deeper the hole that Greenly digs her into, the more Roman’s interest in her grows.

DelSheree Gladden has weaved a beautifully touching story that will silently and subtly decimate the defenses around your heart. You will find yourself falling in love with her extraordinary characters before you realize what is happening. It’s the gentle spirit and the quiet strength within the beautiful words of this book that will slowly transform the deepest parts of your soul into something you never expected. This journey is an incredible treasure that needs to be shared with everyone who enjoys a deeply fulfilling experience like no other.

A Feline Fix is a wonderfully heartfelt story of learning why life is truly worth living. All of us at one time or another tend to forget the little in life that shine so brought and warm us from the inside out. We need to be reminded of what is most important, and this book helps to serve as that reminder. This is a perfect story to warm you all the way to your toes on a bold, blustery day.

I was thoroughly bewitched by Wendy and Callum. These two polar opposite personalities pulled the other out of their slump so easily that it was such a beautiful sight to behold. They were exactly what the doctor ordered, and yet they both fought hard to stop it from happening. I loved how honest they were to each other even if they couldn’t admit that how they acted and what they said were in direct contrast. What beautifully, enchanting characters this story contains! I fell in love with them before I even realized it. That is the mark of a great story!

Caroline Bell Foster is a truly impressive author who knows how to weave beautifully encouraging words straight into your heart. She held my heart in the palm of her hand, and while it may have cracked a couple of times it remolded into something a little better and brighter as a result. I would recommend this story to romance readers everywhere! This is a brilliant author who definitely understands that even an unassuming love can be an incredibly powerful love.

It was funny, sweet and the characters were amazing

I read RACHELLE AYALE's HOUND DOG KISSES and could not put it down. It was funny, sweet and the characters were amazing. Jenna was overwhelmed with getting her fashion show ready. She was very focused and wanted to have the firefighters from her brothers station be in the auction. They also wanted to include Larry, a retired firefighter due to injuries he sustained trying to save a child from a burning building.

Jenna is trying to help her brother get over the death of his dog and decides to get him a puppy. Harley is not your typical firehouse dog. He is low to the ground, drools everywhere and his big ears get in the way when he runs. The dog is described so well, that I wanted to grab him and hug him . He is a big part of this cute romantic story. The author writes with humor, and details that make the story cone to life and characters that are mesmerizing.

This is a must read for all romance readers and everyone that loves dogs. Can Harley play Cupid and get Larry and Jenna together? What happens at the auction that upsets Larry? Grab a copy of this great adventure and sit back and enjoy a story filled with love, getting over past hurts and a loveable puppy that brings happiness to everyone.

I read the Valentine Hound Dog by Rachelle Ayala. I received an ARC of Valentine Hound Dog what an awesome book. Once I started reading it I found it so hard to put down. When the book started out I really felt sorry for Jenna. She seemed like someone who was always used to getting her way no matter what. The book made you laugh, made you cry and I you had to keep reading to see what happened next. I felt like this was part of my family and I really missed them when I finished the book.

A must read for anyone.
