This great followup to the run-away best seller "The Millionaire Next Door" tells us how millionaires became millionaires. In "The Millionaire Mind", Dr. Thomas Stanley tells us how America's wealthy got there and perhaps even more importantly, how you can become one of them.
In "The Millionaire Mind" you will discover answers to questions like:

*** What part did luck and school grades play?
*** How do they find the courage to take financial risks?
*** How did they find they ideal vocations?
*** What are their spouses like and how did they choose them?
*** How do they run their households?
*** How do they buy and sell their homes?

A peek into the minds of Millionaires

While "The Millionaire Next Door" showed us what the Millionaires do RE: Frugality. "The Millionaire Mind" let's us peek into the mindset that makes a Millionaire.
I can't say that I enjoy this book more or less than "The Millionaire Next Door" and don't understand some reviewers who try to make comparisons. It's more like apples and oranges. The books are different and intended to be as companions, not in place of the other.
I would recommend reading "The Millionaire Next Door" first though or at least in addition to "The Millionaire Mind."
Dr. Stanley, excellent book and I am looking forward to your next foray.

About the Author

As a child, Ravynne Phelan (also known as Michele-lee Phelan) dreamed of becoming an artist, but fell into despair in her teenage years when many told her a career in art was an unattainable dream. For the next fourteen years she lived in a world empty of color until she was officially diagnosed with depression and introduced to art therapy. With her childhood dreams rekindled at 33 years of age, she became a professional artist and illustrator. In 2011, Michele-lee became Ravynne, to celebrate and honor the magical
path she has walked in service to Gaia and Great Spirit, and to mark the end of her battle with depression.

STunning, soul stirring artwork - too small format.

Ravynne Phelan is a gifted metaphysical artist - whose gifts are offered to us through hard won spiritual and material journeys. Every image is meticulously detailed and weaves elemental and otherworldly melodies together in a symphony of color, texture, hidden meaning and soul solace to assist in the deep questioning we are all pulled by our Soul to do.

My disappointment upon receiving the cards is that they are simply WAY TO SMALL and needed perhaps a better color printer/ publisher and design decision team in terms of the size. The size gets in the way of showcasing the extraordinary skillset of the artist and in the way of my ability to deeply dive into a state of receptive presence to the gifts my subconscious and LIfe have for me in the discovery session of the cards. The color of her artwork is also not as well represented on the images on her website and again these design/publishing issues take away from the rightful power that could be better delivered. Ms Phelan's artstic skill in manifesting such extraordinary beings and detailed images of inspiration and healing would be greatly enhanced by a larger format card and better color print quality and I really hope that her new Tarot will consider these issues.

This is one of my favorite decks. The artwork is stunning. The phrases for each card are succinct, but they capture the essence of why one would use this deck in the firstplace - because you are looking more clarity. They've been working well for me!

Amazing Animal Imagery

This is one of my favorite decks. The art is beautiful and unique. Ravynne Phelan is an incredible artist. The messages for each card are clear and resonate very well with the card images. Each card is full of symbolism and amazing imagery. Ravynne Phelan also has a tarot deck that comes out next year which is going to be just as fantastic as this deck. Get it. It will quickly become a favorite.

About the Author

Michael Williams (PhD, University of Pennsylvania) is Johanna K. and Martin J. Wyngaarden Senior Professor of Old Testament Studies at Calvin Theological Seminary and a member of the NIV Committee on Bible Translation. He is the author of Deception in Genesis, The Prophet and His Message, Basics of Ancient Ugaritic, The Biblical Hebrew Companion for Bible Software Users, and How to Read the Bible through the Jesus Lens, and editor and contributor of Mishneh Todah. His passion is to equip students with knowledge of the Old Testament and its languages so that they may grow in their comprehension and appreciation of redemptive history and be adequately prepared to promote and defend the faith through word and action. Michael resides in Grand Rapids, MI, with his wife, Dawn.

Ugaritic Introduction

Students of Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic can find insight and help into the meaning of words, syntax, and historical background by turning to other Semitic languages of the same period such as Ugaritic. Michael Williams has now released one of the most simple, clear, and concise primers to ancient Ugaritic available.

This book is indeed concise at about 100 pages proper for the text without including the lexicon and other helps in the background. Williams begins with the background of Ugaritic showing its similarities to Hebrew as well as its important background material for understanding certain OT references. He then moves progressively through the alphabet, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and so on.

Williams' book is strongest in its simple presentation of the grammar of Ugaritic showings its usefulness for biblical studies. His presentation is very clear compared to many other resources available on Ugaritic that are obscure and difficult to understand. This book is also concise which is both positive and negative. For the student who wants some basic familiarity with the language, this resource is sufficient but it won't take a student interested in advanced studies very far.

Another negative is that Williams uses transliteration throughout the entire book rather than requiring the student to study and read the ancient cuneiform texts. This is unfortunate in my opinion though it may make the presentation a bit easier. Another negative of this book is the retail price ($49.99), which is far too high for a 130 page paperback book. This book should be priced around $19.99 or $29.99 rather than its high price.

However, all things considered, this is a lucid and helpful introduction to ancient Ugaritic and should aid students of Hebrew and Aramaic as they continue their studies of the Old Testament.

Delivers

This book is designed primarily for the student with a background in Hebrew, but it is simple enough for the beginner with zero knowledge of any Semitic language.

It is by far not an exhaustive treatment of Ugaritic which the author makes abundantly clear. However, it does provide a rather nice set of references for further study throughout the book should one choose to delve deeper into the language. Teaching only the generally accepted rules of Ugaritic grammar etc. And alerting the reader to questionable rules of grammar at times, this book gives the student a balanced introduction emphasizing that there is still much academic debate and disagreement on features of Ugaritic.

The only criticism I could have is that there is not as many citations and emphases in Ugaritic script throughout the book as I would like to see. It would be nice to have a short Ugarit passage at the end of each chapter for the reader to gloss. This would help the reader assess his/her cumulative profiency or at least the chapter-specific material previously covered.

In the end, this book is excellent and will provide a working knowledge of the language in a simple, none-intimidating manner. I recommend it especially for Hebrew students to augment their studies in morphology and scripture, but also for anyone else thwisps interested in the ancient language(s) of Canaan.

Unlike other books written on the Ugarit language, this book begins as any basic grammar would begin with the alphabet and working through the nouns and verbs as well as grammar in an orderly fashion. Many of the Ugaritic grammars that I have seen made far too many assumptions about the readers' knowledge of Semitic language in general. I would recommend this book as an excellent primer and let the other books flesh out the rest.
