A 85% repack of previous book and workshop
By Jose Berengueres
I got the Kindle edition for cloud reader. This book is a 85% rehash of the author's previous book, workshop and talk. So if you like me hate reading words and blah blah then you can skip this book and go directly to the youtube talk. It is the same but different. Except the jokes. I think the jokes are funnier in this book than in the video.
=== Summary of the book (spoiler alert !!!) ===
The book starts with Melly Shum - a fictional character from Rotterdam - who hates her job, but she did not do anything about it. The motivation of the book is... "So do you want to be the next Melly Shum?" The thesis of the book is "Hate job = unhappy". The solution proposed is: "How to make a happy workplace" by (largely) improving communication techniques and changing the corporate power hierarchy so that things such as "credit of work", "merit reward" and "effort recognition" are assigned in a more rational (and fair) way. In other words, this is Tony Hsieh's ethos of "Happy Management" formula for process oriented managers who need the message delivered in small chunks, workshopable exercises and bright colors but not too bright. :)

Best 'How to Build a Winning Culture' Book
By Robert Pinna
Showed up on my "other people who read what you do bought this book." It looked so visually appealing, I dropped it into my cart expecting a fun, feel-good "why culture matters" narrative.
I was in for an awesome surprise. While it is fun, it's also the best system for building a corporate culture that I've seen in a decade. One quote: "In principle, it is good practice to offer both principles and practices." And that's exactly what the book does. Describes a deceptively simple principle and then illustrates the exact practices to apply it.
The practices are very good at building natural checks and balances. For example, there's a delegation board that elegantly balances empowering employees and managing risk.
I've leant copies to members of my team. Profound impact as they stop looking to place blame and start owning creating the environment they want to work in.

Actions for Happier Teams
By Steve Berczuk
As Jurgen Appelo points out, management is too important to leave just to managers. Managing for Happiness is a useful and fun to read book that gives you concrete tools to help identify ways to help your team to be happier. The book’s writing and typographic style are engaging and have the right mix of “expected” and surprising. and many of the ideas and exercises in this book are things almost anyone on the team can make use of. Some can help you to understand your personal situation, and others are activities anyone can introduce (assuming are reasonable corporate culture).
While the ideas here are based on Management 3.0, this book stands on its own, though I do recommend reading Management 3.0. More than a Management 3.0 workbook, this book is a tool box for
Anyone who works on a team will benefit from this book. You may end this book with a very long list of things to try, and, because Appelo cites many sources, a long list of things to read if you want to go deeper. Even though it would be great to have a quick read that solves your problems, helping to enable effective teams is hard work. Managing for Happiness will give you some tools to make that work easier.
